From last weeks lecture ( 19th Febuary) in the seminar we had to research our local MP. As i live in Newbury, Berkshire my local MP is Richard Benyon, who is with the conservative party. He was born in Reading and was educated at Bradfield college. His previous occupation was a farmer, surveyor.
In terms of what he has been voting on key issues since 2001 is:
- Has never voted on a transparent Parliament.
- Voted moderately against introducing a smoking ban.
- Voted very strongly against introducing ID cards.
- Voted moderately against Labour’s anti-terrorism laws.
- Voted very strongly for investigating the Iraq war.
- Voted very strongly for replacing Trident.
- Voted very strongly against equal gay rights.
Also as for Benyon’s numerology, he has spoken in 37 debates in the last year and this statistic is above average for most MPs. He has voted in 70% of votes in parliament, again this is average amongst MPs.
As for land and property, Richard Benyon has landholdings in Hampshire and Berkshire. Comprising of farmland, residential and commercial property, some potential development land, woodlands and gravel workings, for some of which rent is recieved. He has residential and commercial property in Hackney, for which rent is received.
